This piece by Macronencer tells of his upset at the sudden closure of Pleasureland Southport
and the destruction of the wooden ‘Cyclone’ roller coaster.

GRAND NATIONAL     GRANDMA BY THE SEA     SONG OF THE PLEASURE BEACH FAN!

THE FIRST RIDE     ROLLER COASTER

GRANDMA BY THE SEA

I had a lovely Grandma
She was always kind to me
And often I would visit her
In Southport, by the sea.

She liked to stand and watch the waves
In sunshine, or in rain
And gently rock me, up and down
And up and down again.

Her age, I could not fathom
But her every motion creaked
As though a thousand years of life
Into her limbs had sneaked.

She must have lived through many times
Seen sorrow and great joy
But never did she wear a frown
For any girl or boy.

One day her carers raised their voice
Proclaimed her time was done
I thought they'd put her in a home
But worse plans were begun.

They tore her limb from limb
And only stopped when we all cried
And when we sobbed at what we saw
Committed matricide.

The poor old girl, so sweet and mild
They killed her, tree by tree
And gentle rocking is no more
But in the bloodstained sea.
