[VHS G] EUCLID BEACH CAROUSEL, THE LONG JOURNEY HOME. [NTSC] Built in 1909 by the PTC and designated simply “Carousel 19,” for two generations this carousel was the star attraction at Cleveland’s Euclid Beach park. When the park closed in 1969, it was sold and moved to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where it entertained yet another generation of children. When that park closed in 1997 many believed that it was also the end for PTC #19 and the 54 beautiful, hand carved horses seemed destined to be scattered to private collectors at auction. This VHS tells of the true story of what happened next; the story of PTC #19, and its unforgettable 90-year journey home.

One day Fields meets wealthy businessman Grossmith and persuades him to invest in the ailing mill, thus saving the day. Features various scenes of the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool.

We’re off to a good start as we escape to Pleasure Island, near Boston. Then it’s off to Busch Gardens at Williamsburg, Virginia and a ride on their brand new coaster, the Loch Ness Monster. Our journey continues to Fort Osage fun park in Arkansas. Another roadside attraction is Old MacDonald’s Farm in Orange County, CA. Next stop is Disneyland, a great travelogue made for the Spanish speaking market. Finally we stop at Six Flags Over Mid-America to top off the vacation.
[DVD J] AMUSEMENT PARK COMEDIES FROM THE 1920s. [DVD-R / 2003 / 55 MINS] In the movies early days, independent producers in order to keep within their budget used the surrounding Los Angeles area as locations for their pictures. The first two films were shot at Venice Beach, the Playground of Los Angeles. Beauty And The Bump (1927); Tire Trouble (1923); The Sheik Of Hollywood (1923); Boys Will Be Joys (1925).
[DVD K] THERE'S A DETECTIVE ON THE MIDWAY. [DVD-R / 2003 / 55 MINS] Two vintage detective television shows with quasi amusement park / carnival locations. The Cheaters: (1960) stars John Ireland investigating the operators of an amusement park who are robbing their customers and putting in false insurance claims. Filmed on location in England (UK). The Lone Wolf: (1954) stars Louis Hayward as Michael Lanyard who’s on vacation visiting two old circus friends and encounters murder and robbery in an amusement park that ends in a deadly chase on the roller coaster. Filmed in the USA on the West coast.

The first film (Fun On The Sands at Blackpool: 1914) features two circus clowns visiting the Pleasure Beach, Winter Gardens, and the top of the tower. The second film (Happy Days at Blackpool: 1926) contains clips of the Pleasure Beach, showing: Big Dipper, Joy Wheel, River Caves, Rainbow Wheel, Virginia Reel, Noah’s Ark, and The Whip. The third film (Blackpool Illuminations: 1934) takes us along the promenade to see the lights. (Free booklet enclosed).
